Her Majesty’s Theatre, Ballarat

Project Overview

Her Majesty’s Theatre is Ballarat’s pre-eminent theatre venue and the oldest working theatre in mainland Australia. The theatre is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register (VHR) as H0648 and is of historical and architectural importance to the State of Victoria.

We have been engaged by the City of Ballarat to complete the Stage 3 – Upgrade Project that focuses on three priorities: accessibility & universal access, safety & compliance, and functionality. The works are concentrated on the Front of House and the new HUB / Administration under the auditorium. The project includes provision of universal access to the entire theatre via the installation of two lifts and upgrades to or installation of several staircases and ramps. Two new fire staircases are being installed and upgrade of the fire services are being undertaken generally. The original crush room to the stalls is being reinstated. The project also includes the refurbishment of the bar, ticket office and amenities, and a new entrance to Unicorn Lane.

Our services include complete architectural services, management of the Heritage Victoria approvals process, tendering assistance, and contact administration. We are also currently updating the Conservation Management Plan for the site.

We are very excited that this project is currently under construction, and have shared some photographs from recent site visits of works well underway.
